Buddhist prayer beads, or malas are a traditional tool used to count the number of times a mantra is recited (breaths), while meditating.

Malas, or prayer beads, consist of 108 strung beads plus a “guru” bead, which the 108 other beads turn like the planets around the sun. In Hinduism, the 108 number is of great significance. Renowned mathematicians of Vedic culture viewed 108 as a number of the wholeness of existence. This number also connects the Sun, Moon, and Earth: The average distance of the Sun and the Moon to Earth is 108 times their respective diameters. Such phenomena have given rise to many examples of ritual significance.

I started making these, one of a kind malas, as a practice of my own meditation and creative release. The process is very intuitive as I select the beads which speak to me daily. I use various semi-precious gemstones, crystals and natural stones including agate, jasper, quartz, pearls and many more, also mixing in natural bone. The “guru” bead is not a traditional tassel, it is usually a gem stone, or maybe even a deer antler.  These semi-precious gemstones and crystals help to balance the energy in the body using healing properties which ancient civilizations have used for centuries.

I also infuse each mala with a specific mantra. As I create the mala I recite the mantra 108 times, as I add each bead. My process is very intentional so that the mala will hold the highest potent healing vibration though its stones and mantra.

Then through this knowledge gained and my intuition I will create your specialized mala and infuse it with your powerful personal mantra & send off to you! Your mala will be unique to you and only you. You will also receive a beautiful print of about your mala with your mantra and the gemstones used. All custom malas are one of a kind and made to order.
